View over Nord Norge in the northern region of Norway

Nord-Norge is the northern region of Norway. It includes three provinces: Nordland, Troms and Finmark.

There is daylight 24 hours a day during the whole summer and night during the entire winter. Some people even go through light therapy during the winter so as to compensate their lack of light. After several months of dark winter months, activity in summer is intense: one has to enjoy everyday, go out, party, and meet friends. Certain parents walk through “the night” with their stroller so as to enjoy the quietness of the streets.
Do not miss to go to the North cap during your visit in the North Norge. You will be rewarded after the long journey with an exceptional panorama over a 1000 feet high cliff over the sea. The road towards the North cap is accessible starting June. The continual daylight fascinates lots of tourists; most of them dream to be able to see and experience the famous boreal dawn: this captivating luminous phenomenon appears on the poles when electrified particles reach a certain speed and connect with the atmosphere producing thus light. Boreal auroras occur mostly in the north of the Polar Arctic Circle during winter nights.
With your rental car, you will be able to visit different cities: Mo i Rana, Hammerfest, the most northern city in the world and Tromsø, « the little Paris of the North» are really worth the detour.

Beautiful view of the Norwegian landscapes

In Hammerfest, you will be able to become members of the “Royal Society of the Polar Beas”, In Tromsø, you will be impressed by the Arctic Cathedral. At about 19 miles of Mo i Rana, you will walk in the national park of the glacier Svartisen. But do not adventure yourself without professionals on your side on this beautiful glacier!
Norwegian roads are often sinuous and narrow. You should drive very carefully. But the roads of the north of the country will offer some dream wonderlands: mountains, lakes, fjords, and falls. Your rental car will allow you to stop in order to admire these breathless sceneries and breathe in some really fresh air.
Alta city is worth the detour. Well-known for its slate industry, this city will impress you with its rupestrian architecture. The most ancient paintings are more than 6000 years old. Alta Museum holds the most important rock paintings collection of Northern Europe.
You will be able to discover also the city of Brønnøysund and the mountain Torghatten. Torghatten Mountain presents a hole of 115 feet height and 524 feet long. There are two explanations for the creation of this hole. The first and most probable states that this hole was caused by marine erosion when the level of the sea was much higher than today. But there is another more poetic explanation to the forming of the Torghatten Mountain. The legend says that a troll intended to kill with its spear the seven daughters of the king. In order to protect his daughters, the king threw his hat in between his children and the troll. The troll threw his spear which landed on the king’s hat. At that exact moment, the sun rose and the pierced hat petrified itself giving birth to Torghatten.
