If you decide to cross all of Mexico by car you should clear a large chunk of your calendar: the biggest country in Middle America covers an area of 1,183, 524 square miles. Mexico borders Belize and Guatemala in the south and the United States of America in the north. In between you can find anything from volcanic lands, chalk cliffs, rain forest, desert, and dazzling cities. The climate is as diverse as the countryside: you will come across subtropical temperatures as well as wintery cool temperatures.

The highest mountain of Mexico, the Citlaltépet, peaks at 18,400 ft and is a natural highlight, surrounded by volcanic lands and craters.

Mexico is divided into 31 states, one of them lending its name to a spicy sauce. Tabasco borders the Gulf of Mexico and is mostly covered in swamps.
Quintana Roo, a state along the Caribbean coast, is particularly spectacular. Dense rain forests, with characteristic biodiversity, grow almost all the way down to the pearly white beaches.
Further towards the center you will get to México state, in the north of which you can visit a fabulous ruined city.

Bordering the USA in the north, Chihuahua is the biggest Mexican state. The gigantic high plateau descends towards the west and becomes the Chihuahua desert further north.
The north-western state, Baja California, has an area of roughly 41,000 square miles, a considerable part of which is covered in vineyard producing delicious wine of exceptional quality.
Mexico City, the capital, has a population of 8.7m. The city is located on the bottom of Mexican Valley, surrounded by mountains. Lake Texcoco, which used to be in the center of the valley, was dried out to make room for the expanding metropolis. The setting of Mexico City is quite spectacular and offers many viewpoints from which you can take stunning photographs.

The culinary variety of Mexican cuisine is almost legendary. Aztec, French, Caribbean, and Spanish influences combine to a tasty adventure that will leave you begging the chef for his recipe.

However much time you have to spend here: Mexico won’t bore you and you will return home with countless memories of natural wonders, Latino hospitality, and mystical history.
