Greece – land of gods, thousand islands, and cradle of democracy. This fascinating history has been preserved in numerous monuments and religious sites. Traveling the country those pictures associated with Greek history and culture easily come to life. The unique geography of Greece makes it a great place to travel, but also a lot of work. Mainland Greece, the peninsula Peloponnese, where important historical towns like Patras and Sparta are located, is contrasted in 9840 islands that make up the rest of the country, spread all over the Aegean, Ionian and Libyan Sea. This leaves enough space for each tourist – and plenty of outdoor activities to partake in. The coastal region is great for surfing, scuba diving, or sailing, inland is best discovered on bikes, with rental cars or on horse backs. Short distances can even be tackled on donkeys.Almost 10,000 miles of coast with turquoise water make for a swimmer’s paradise. The best time to travel if you want to make use of this is spring to fall. However, in summer temperatures climb quite rapidly and it can get unbearably hot at noon. Apart from natural attractions the culture and history of Greece is a true highlight. Ancient sites and religious buildings are to be found everywhere, sometimes hidden between two residential blocks in one of the cities. Athens, for example, takes pride in the most famous of all Greek historical sights: the Acropolis. The approach to the Acropolis is in the midst of the vivid districts of Plaka and Monasteriki. Not far from here you can also visit the 2004 Olympic stadium. Athens is popular for its vibrant nightlife and its great bars. Let the metropolitan flair and electrifying atmosphere inspire you! The Greek islands are just as popular as mainland Greece. The best-known Ionian island is Korfu, beloved for its picturesque beaches, an Eldorado for snorkelers. |
