Italy is one of the top visited European destinations of American tourists.  Home to great cuisine, rich culture and unforgettable sites, Italy should be at the top of your must see list when discovering Europe.

Italy’s major cultural differences in the north versus the south makes it a great destination for those who are looking to experience a trip packed with tons to see, and never want to run out of things to do.

Rome, Florence and Venice are the most populated and highly visited cities within Italy. Although packed with tourists, you will still a load of sites in these cities.  A trip to Rome, for example, is not complete without visiting the following major sites; The Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, the Villa Borghese, the Piazza Navona and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Venice, goes without saying, is one of the world’s most popular cities due to its extensive network of canals and water ways. This beautiful city is home to great tourist sites such as the Piazza San Marco, St. Mark’s Basllica and the La Fenice opera house.  A trip with a gondola through the breath taking canals and under some of the many famous bridges is well worth the trip. A word of advice, however, is to keep an extra eye on your wallet as Venice is known for having some sly pick pockets.



Different locations throughout Italy offer not only new sites, but new cuisines as well.  While in Italy be sure to try everything you come across as the food alone offers enough incentive to extend your trip. If in the Tuscany region, you will be spoiled with delicious breads, cheeses, vegetables fruits, vegetables and olive oils.  In southern Italy, such as in Sicily, you will be doused with pasta and rice dishes often accompanied by high quality seafood.  Be sure to indulge yourself in the delicious wines of the local regions.

Lastly, be sure to take the time of year into consideration when planning a trip to Italy. The Mediterranean climate can get quite warm when not accustomed to the area, especially when doing a lot of walking and site seeing.  However such weather highly desired for those looking to spend their time on one of Italy’s countless beaches.
